Temporary Retirement

A few years ago I thought I wanted to be that ”Big City Career” girl. You know the kind that wakes up at 5.30am to start getting ready for work because it takes 2 hours to get dressed, do your make up, slip on the high heels and run out the door, only to then sit on a bus for 1 1/2 hours while it rests in the carpark on the M2 and then get scolded for being 3 minutes late to the office? yeah that kind.

My life was literally. Wake. Shower. Breakfast. Bus. Bus. Bus. fall asleep standing up on bus. Bus. Work. Bus. Bus. Bus. Bus. Microwave something for dinner. Stumble into bed. Do it all again the next day.

Sure, I liked the “community” aspect of working 9 – 5(6,7,8) but was this really living life? I felt like a zombie or a robot. I couldn’t breathe. I was surrounded by millions of other unhappy ”sheeples” doing the same thing. Then a miracle….I was made redundant.

Instead of finding a job as a robot for another company in the city, I decided to cut my losses, pack my bags and move to the country so that I could afford the rent while I finally finish my university degree. Best decision ever! (for life….not necessarily for the finances!)

Join me as I reimagine life without traffic, work related stress, migraines, pollution and find peace and tranquility in my new life in the country.
